Political Scandals: Do They Matter Anymore?

Brandon Rottinghaus, Ph.D.

Who doesn’t love a big, juicy scandal?! Candidates these days seem more likely to get caught up in (and survive) scandals than ever. The United States certainly does not corner the market on political scandal, but we sure have had some doozies. And few have researched or written more on the subject than Brandon Rottinghaus, Political Science professor at University of Houston.

In this two-part class we investigate trends in political scandals over time. Tracking presidential, gubernatorial, and congressional scandals from Watergate to the present, we assess the impact of political scandals in a polarizing political environment.
