Reading the Bible During a Pandemic

Matthias Henze

During a pandemic, many of us turn to the Bible. The Psalms of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament in particular can be a source of comfort and encouragement. After a few general observations on the Book of Psalms, we will read Psalm 91 slowly together. Throughout its history of reading in Judaism and Christianity, Psalm 91 has been associated with plagues and other pandemics. Our task will be to explore the challenges of reading Psalm 91 today, deriving comfort while being mindful that we live in modern times.
