The Write Stuff: The Art of the Story (8 Week Course)

Susan Wright

Whether memoir, fiction, poetry, or essay, a writer’s challenge becomes bringing the reader along the arc of the story into an envisioned or recalled world. The conflicts, triumphs, and defeats that form the backbone of storytelling are richly enhanced when our inborn senses are evoked. In addition, as inhabitants of " interesting times” we will be invited to consider perspective and how it is changed or steadfastly held.

Writing prompts, not assignments, will highlight tactics that draw readers into settings and bring characters to life. Written comments from the instructor and class feedback from reading aloud will help advance a current project, stimulate a new idea, or simply bring a strong start to a blank notebook.

This class will be held onsite at WIH.
