Travel with the Professors (6 Week Series)

Ursula Muenzel

Join our professors on these cultural “armchair adventures” to international destinations where they have traveled often and have a keen knowledge and fondness. These evenings will begin with a presentation in the classroom and end with a social hour for discussion and a sampling of refreshments inspired by that region.

Six Week Course Schedule | Thursdays | 4:30 - 6:30 PM

September 8 – Brasil | Ursula Muenzel, Ph.D., has lived part-time in Brasil with her husband, German Consul General, for the past six years. She has traveled the country extensively and written blogs on the country’s current affairs and history. Saúde!

September 15 – Italy | Barry Greenlaw, world traveler and guide, has led numerous tour groups around the globe. One of his favorite destinations is Venice. He will also make stops in the Veneto (the area west of Venice that includes Palladio’s villas, the Domomite mountains, and more!) Salute!

September 22 – Germany | Irene Guenther, Ph.D., was born in Germany, and one of her fields of specialization is 20th-century German history. Research for her books and love of road trips off the Autobahn have lured her back to her native country countless times. Come discover that there really is more to Germany than lederhosen and beer. Prost!

September 29 – Greece | Michael Barnes, Ph. D., has traveled extensively in Greece and designs and leads the UH Honors College’s summer study abroad program in Greece, “A Greek Odyssey.” ΥΓΕΙΑ ΜΑΣ!

October 6 – Argentina | Nicolas Shumway, Ph.D. in Hispanic Literature, has held two visiting appointments at Argentine Universities and has written two books on Argentina. Salud!

October 13 – France | Lynda Harper Kelly, Ph.D., has traveled to France almost every year since spending a summer studying in Paris. This tour to three pilgrimage destinations, Mont-Saint-Michel, Le Puy-en-Velay, and Rocamadour, will be enriched by her husband Frank’s spectacular photography. Santé!
