Claudine Giacchetti, Ph.D.




Claudine Giacchetti, Ph.D., is a Professor of French at the University of Houston. She earned her MA at the University of Paris and her doctorate at Rice University. A specialist in nineteenth-century French literature, she is the author of several books on women writers of postrevolutionary France. She also published a memoir on the lives of “displaced” Jewish women in France during WW2, and a book on novelist Guy de Maupassant. She has published many articles in international academic journals, including on 19th century children’s literature. She teaches a variety of courses on contemporary France, Business French, French culture and literature, and directs the UH summer program in Angers, France. An accomplished educator, she has received multiple teaching awards, including the UH Teaching Excellence Career Award in 2021. In 2016, she was knighted Chevalier in the Ordre des Palmes Académiques, a prestigious distinction awarded by the French Government to recognize significant contributions to the advancement and promotion of French culture and language in the fields of teaching and research.
