Art About Town: Exploring Houston’s Galleries

Catherine Aquila

Houston’s art scene is bold, eclectic, and full of surprises—and this course is your invitation to dive in. From cutting-edge contemporary spaces to timeless collections, you’ll explore the city’s galleries while sharpening your eye, learning how to interpret what you see, and discovering the kinds of art that truly speak to you. Along the way, you’ll gain insider insight into how artists, galleries, and the art world operate behind the scenes.

Part art appreciation, part city exploration, and part personal discovery, the course begins at The Women’s Institute with an engaging overview of Houston’s gallery landscape and a playful art-preference assessment. The next four sessions venture into galleries across the city, followed by a final recap at WIH to reflect on what you’ve seen, share discoveries, and chart next steps—whether you’re a curious newcomer or a seasoned art lover ready to see Houston anew.
