Science in the News | March 5, 2026

Maia Larios, Ph.D.

Curious about the science behind the headlines? Join us this Fall for Science in the News — a lively, discussion-based class where we will dive into the jaw-dropping, mind-bending, and sometimes just plain weird science making waves in today’s media.

From breakthroughs in AI that can design new medicines, to quantum computers that may finally surpass classical limits, to gene-editing experiments pushing the boundaries of what it means to “cure” disease — 2026 is already shaping up to be a remarkable year for discovery. We’ll also tackle topics like climate-tech innovations, deep-sea exploration, and what new space missions are revealing about our solar system.

This isn’t your typical lecture class. Bring your curiosity, your questions, and even your skepticism. We’ll unpack the buzz, sort fact from fiction, and explore how these breakthroughs are shaping our world. If you love science, current events, or just want to know what’s really going on behind the headlines, this is the class for you!
