The Language of Art
Tuesday September 01, 2026 |
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Anna Tahinci, Ph.D. This richly illustrated course invites students on a journey through the visual arts, exploring creative expression across cultures and time periods. We will learn how to discuss a variety of artworks in relation to their formal elements (line, space, light and color, form, texture, and pattern) and their principles of design (balance, scale, proportion, rhythm, unity, and variety). The course also develops visual literacy and observational skills through guided visual and verbal analysis. Artworks from the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Menil Collection will serve as key examples throughout the class.
