The Midterms and the Future Balance of Power in D.C., Austin, and Harris County
This course offers a comprehensive overview of the November 2026 midterm elections at the federal, state, and local levels. We will examine the national battle for control of the U.S. House and Senate, with special attention to key Texas races that could determine the balance of power in Washington during the final two years of President Trump’s presidency. At the state level, the course will explore the races for governor, lieutenant governor, and other offices within Texas’s plural executive branch, along with pivotal Texas Legislature contests that will shape the priorities and influence of both parties during the 2027 legislative session. The course will conclude with an analysis of major local elections across the Houston metropolitan area, including high-profile contests in Harris and Fort Bend counties.
