A History of The Olympic Games: Torches, Medals and Seldom Heard Stories

Lucky Burke

The Paris Olympic Games will begin on July 24th. Between now and then, there will be innumerable shows getting everyone excited about the upcoming Summer Games. They will talk about the Paris Olympic Torch, the Cauldron Lighting, and all the new favorite participants. But what you won’t hear there, but you will hear in this program, is how the Olympic Torch came into being and the incredible stories that have occurred in the past 88 years. These include the most emotional Cauldron Lighting ever, the single most interesting Olympics ever and the events that changed the games forever, and the stories behind the 1968 Mexico City and 1936 Berlin Olympics.

What makes this program especially unique is the personal collection of Olympic torches and medals that Lucky Burke has amassed over the years. You will be able to see and touch actual Olympic Torches, Winners’ Medals, Opening Ceremony Uniforms, Olympic equipment, and one of the most unusual and beautiful Olympic items – the rare safety lamp that keeps the torch lighted.

This class will be held in-person at WIH and simulcast via Zoom
